Weather or Not
After
the closing,
we open windows,
tear up weeds, patch,
paint, fix things, tend long
neglected beds, mend fences,
spend more money than we intend
to at Home Depot on new tools and other
necessities that will most likely end in the shed
collecting dust or rusting when simplicity proves
itself to be the best method, time and time again.
We kid each other, discussing when the renovations
will be over, knowing full well that the answer is
never. This endeavor, this extreme makeover,
is a labor of love, a lifestyle in and of itself,
but only time will tell if we have the mettle
to succeed, or if we too will fail, like
